Alright, an update.

I purchased an awesome little BFG 9800 GTX+ OC from ebay, and it finally arrived the other day. Considering I had classes, and knowing that had I rolled up my sleeves and got to work on the card, I would probably spend the next few days tweaking and not go for class.

So, I patiently waited for the weekend (which is a long one, considering that there is holiday till Wednesday) to get to work. Right, so saturday arrived and I got to work. I told myself, I’ll start around 3 p.m. (time when I got back from class) and would be done in 30 minutes or so, tweak the card for a bit, and then head out for the futsal league at the sportzal…but I forgot to take into account Murphy’s law, and as they say, about the best laid plans… disaster ensued.

I’ll get back to that in a bit, let me first introduce you to my new baby. To the more attentive of you lot, you would realize that way back, I had posted here about my birthday wishes. Suffice to say, none of it came true, and almost 2 years later, I decided to take matters into my own hands. For those of you wondering “I find it hard to believe this cheap cunt actually bought something for himself with his own money” rest assured I had no choice. My previous graphic card was dying, or should I say, taking it’s last few breath. It would reboot my pc, glitch video’s, flicker the screen, etc. So I had no choice but to get a new card. 

That being said, I logged onto Ebay, searched out for a decent affordable card when I accidently spotted the BFG. Whilst it was beyond the realm of decent nor affordable,, and more into overkill, and pure pwnage, I just had to get my hands on it. Buy it I did, and waited for 4 days for DHL to deliver. 

 

So first thing I did was unscrew the window panel and open it up. Then, I removed my older cards from my rig. Note the ridiculous (deadly)  amount of dust. To make things worst, I’m allergic to dust…

So there are 2 cards, since I’ve them SLI-ed (Scalable Link Interface). Therein ends the easy part. The removal of the GC took all of 1 minute, but the next few steps took 2 bloody days. So let me show you the beast…

So yeah, after I unpacked the card, I did the next thing that is expected of any decent man. I threw away this:

This card is HUGE! No really, it is… the card alone by itself weighs around 3kgs. That’s around the weight of my left nut. Let me show you what I mean…

Yeah, it’s fuckin’ huge. No cookies for guessing why it’s called a BFG. My worst fears materialised when I tried to plug in the GC unto my Motherboard….

It didn’t fuckin’ FIT! Try as I might, it refused to budge. There was nothing more to be done… I could only do one thing! Remove everything and run the whole PC externally…

 

So I removed everything one by one, out of the casing meticulously. There was so much dust, I was coughing like a lil’ bitch the entire time. Slowly, but surely, I got everything out. I plugged everything back in, and was hoping for shit to work….but nooooooooooo. The mobo could not boot. To diagnose the problem, I tried shorting the psu, but it did not power up. I realized that the PSU has bailed on me too. I shed a tear, and went to sleep knowing there was nothing I could do at 3 a.m.

The next day, I woke up early, wanked off to some anime, and made my way to Novie Cheriyomushki. So I went scouting for a decent PSU. After almost 2 hours of walking around, scouting, and eventually bargaining, I managed to get this PSU..

So I got back, plugged everything up, found a decent casing (the DHL courier box) and got the whole thing running under an hour. Here is how my awesome rig runs…

Was it worth it? You bet your fuckin ass it was. I am already considering SLI-ing this beast!
